3 Pre-requisites for Admission


3 years post-degree experience in legal practice

You must have had at least three years post-degree experience in legal practice at the time of commencement of the programme.

This could, for example, be in a law firm, government, a company, a non-governmental organisation or international organisation.

Very good grades

You must have obtained very good grades in your law studies.

The grades required for admission will be tailored to the system of legal education in the countries from which applicants have obtained, or will obtain, their qualifications.

Places will normally only offered to applicants with the equivalent of a high 2:1 in a UK Bachelor of Laws Degree.

Language requirements

If you are not a native English speaker or if the language of instruction of your previous degree is not English, we ask you to provide evidence of your command of English.  

English tests must be less than two years old at the time of application. 

IELTS with 7.5 overall (with a minimum of 7.0 in both the listening and writing elements and 6.0 in the other elements) or internet-based TOEFL with109 (at least 24 in listening, 25 in writing and 20 in the other sections)

            Application deadline: None - rolling admissions. Early applications are recommended ;

1/ Apply as soon as possible :

Applicants are encouraged to apply at least 6 months before their proposed start date.

Online application

1/ Create an account online using your email address ;  

2/ Upload your supporting documents with your online application.  It is much better to upload all of your documents before you submit your application as this means that we can process your complete application and send it straight to the department ;


3/ Further additional items can be sent online via the How do I forms after your online application has been submitted ;


4/ You may submit your application before your referees submit their letters; we will match the references to your application.

Application development

Applications for the programme should be made via the Graduate Admissions Office website. 

As part of your application you will need to provide :

- a personal statement explaining why you wish to take the programme ;

previous degree transcripts ;

- and two references (one academic reference and one reference from your most recent legal employer).

The decision


Applications must be received a minimum of two months in advance of the start of the module teaching. A decision is authoritative and official only if it has been sent in writing from the Graduate Admissions Office. We make our admissions decision on the basis of academic merit and professional experience.


We will send your offer pack by post. Other decisions, that can recover 5 different types, will be sent to you by email : 

1/ An unconditional offer

2/ A conditional offer

3/ You are on a waiting list

4/ You are on the reserve list

5/ We are unable to offer you a place
