LL.M. in American Law

Admission

Candidates for admission may submit their applications online or by mail. Please see the information on the right for more details.


A completed application includes:


  • application form and application fee
  • official academic transcript from all college and universities attended
  • two letters of recommendation
  • personal statement
  • proof of English proficiency demonstrated through adequate TOFEL or IELTS scores
  • résumé or CV

Program

Requirements


LL.M. students must successfully complete at least 24 credits over the academic year. The Introduction to American Law course, in August, is required for all LL.M. in American Law students. There is no thesis requirement, but students must take one seminar course that is graded based on a substantial writing project. The LL.M. program ends with a graduation ceremony in mid-May. Concentrations in American Law


The Law School is pleased to provide LL.M. in American Law students with the option to receive a certificate in one of several concentrations:


  • Business Law
  • Criminal Justice
  • Environmental & Energy Law
  • Health Law & Bioethics
  • Human Rights Law
  • Intellectual Property & Technology Law
  • International Law
  • Labor & Employment Law

To receive a concentration notation on the academic record, students must successfully complete between 12 and 15 credits of concentration coursework, depending upon the subject. Read more about concentrations here.
