Orrick Adds Leading Competition Advisor in Italy

Publié lundi 1 octobre 2018

Orrick announced today that Pietro Merlino has joined our Rome office as a partner and head of the firm’s Italian antitrust and competition practice. He joins from Cleary Gottlieb.

Pietro brings two decades of experience as a competition lawyer, advising on abuse of dominance, merger control, anticompetitive agreements and cartels, and licensing and distribution issues in the European Union and Italy. He has deep sector experience in life sciences, energy, transportation and consumer goods. Pietro appears frequently before the EU courts of law and Italian civil and administrative courts, as well as before the European Commission and the Italian Antitrust Authority. Well-known for his EU regulatory and competition law work in Italy, Pietro is recognized by Chambers EuropeLegal 500 EMEA and Global Competition Review.

“We are delighted to continue to strengthen our market-leading Italian regulatory platform with a brilliant practitioner like Pietro,” said Guido Testa, Co-Leader of Orrick’s Italian offices with Patrizio Messina

“Pietro is a talented, experienced and well-known antitrust lawyer. With his addition, we now have first class antitrust capability in each of Europe’s major economies,” said Jay Jurata, Leader of Orrick’s Global Antitrust & Competition Group.

“I’m excited to join Orrick and work with the dynamic team of antitrust lawyers Orrick has built in Paris, London, Düsseldorf, Brussels, the United States and Beijing. I look forward to collaborating with the Italian team to serve domestic and international clients,” said Pietro.

Pietro’s addition follows the arrival of prominent French antitrust adviser Patrick Hubert from Clifford Chance last year and tech-focused antitrust rising star Amy Ray from Cadwalader earlier this year. Marianna Meriani, formerly with Cleary, also joins Orrick’s antitrust and competition practice as an associate.
