Overall Job Purpose

We are looking to hire a permanent Commercial/ IP/ Technology/ Outsourcing lawyer to join our IP, Technology and Procurement Legal team in London.  The team supports the bank on all intellectual property, technology, data protection, outsourcing and offshoring issues and this role will primarily support the global Procurement Function of the CIB, with teams based out of London and Paris. These CIB procurement teams in London and Paris control an external procurement budget of around €1.4 billion annually. 

Descriptif du poste


  • Assist the buyers on all types of procurement projects and advise on the setting up of contractual relationships with third party providers generally. You will work closely and effectively with both the procurement buyers and the different business lines that are the end-users of the products and services being procured. Contracts typically relate to IT, market data and consultancy, in addition to supply of goods or services.

  • Review, negotiate, and draft contracts, while mitigating relevant risks, as part of a negotiation team working closely with Procurement or directly with the Business end-users.

  • Promote use of our contract templates and ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements potentially across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Support the existing programme of preparing procedures, precedents, templates, user manuals and training, to enable the procurement buyers to be more self-sufficient on lower-risk contracts.

  • Where necessary, seek specialist legal advice from internal experts in particular on employment and tax issues and potentially on IP, technology and data protection, if needed (depending on experience of candidate).

  • Instruct and interact with external legal counsel, where appropriate, to promote high quality, cost- efficient external legal services.

  • Ensure consistent and rigorous legal risk management and approach to legal documentation review.

  • Provide support and guidance on outsourcing, IP, IT, data protection operational and legal issues, where appropriate in consultation with internal experts.

  • Contributive responsibilities (how the role contributes to the success of business line / function)

  • Where appropriate, assist, involve and communicate with other internal Functions and other teams within the Legal department and Group Legal Head Office on projects and other matters.

  • Keep up to date with legal, market and regulatory developments; share know-how appropriately with relevant areas of the business, across the legal teams globally and with other functions.

  • Develop a group team spirit through mutual support, effective internal communication and mentoring.

  • Manage projects and resolve queries originated within CIB Legal.

  • Observe and embody the BNP Paribas group values and principles.

Profil recherché


  • Qualified lawyer in a major international jurisdiction with relevant practical experience gained at an international law firm or an investment bank in an IP / Technology/ Procurement/ Outsourcing team.

  • Has 3- 5 years PQE experience in company/commercial work, gained in private practice or in-house (although candidates with greater or lesser experience may also be considered).

  • Preferably has experience in negotiating contracts from the customer side, particularly IT contracts, and some familiarity with banking/financial services.

  • Is independent, thorough and dynamic, with excellent communication and drafting skills.

  • Has strong time management and prioritisation skills, is self-sufficient and operates comfortably in an environment with limited secretarial/admin support.

  • Has the ability to work as part of a team, since s/he will be working with a range of different people across several jurisdictions within the bank (e.g. our clients in the business, the commercial buyers in the procurement teams, and liaising sometimes with colleagues in the Legal Department itself.

  • French language skills and/ or experience with French law are not necessary but would be beneficial.
